Keep up your New Year’s resolutions in 2017

Creating a new year’s resolution enables you to change yourself for the better, even if no other other reason than to remind yourself that it’s another year. Having a new year’s resolution can be life changing, but only if you keep it up throughout the year.

However, with it being a month into 2017, most people are starting to contemplate if their new year’s resolution can fit into their day to day schedule. On average, 64% of people maintain their resolution past one month, but only 8% of people actually succeed in achieving their resolution.  We have gathered together some tips and ideas to increase your chances of resolution success in 2017.

Willpower training

Being strong willed isn’t something you either have or you don’t. Like a muscle, willpower can be trained, it just includes finding your own personal way on how to improve it. The University of Albany, State University of New York, conducted research which found that training can be as simple as refusing yourself sweets and/or chocolate. We’re not saying to give up sweets altogether as that would be crazy! Get to know your limits by using a grip strengthener or a rubber ball for as long as possible twice a day.Self-Motivation

To stay in control with your goals and objective, motivation is vitally important for success and potentially exceeding your expectations. You know what makes you happy so do what you can to make the task enjoyable! It could range from watching something funny on YouTube before working out to tweaking your goals to make them more interesting. Our reliable method to increase motivation is to get our headphones out and crank up the tunes.

Look forward

No one likes to do work that isn’t practical so to make sure you keep your eye on the ball for your goals, we recommend to plan ahead mentally if you have a physical schedule as this will give you an idea of where you want to be by the end of the year.

By making a plan early, you will create a clear sense of direction to avoid losing sight of your goals, such as knowing what to do when evil temptations kick in like a quick fast food meal rather than a healthy snack. If your goal is to lose a couple pounds by the end of 2017, create a dedicated meal plan to ward off those cravings that we all get on an empty stomach.

Tracking is also a very useful method to consider. You don’t have to keep track of every rep you do or every calorie you intake, but write down an estimate so you can see some satisfying results for yourself. If you still aren’t reaching you goals that could be an indication of an unrealistic plan:

  • You aimed too high so tweak your goals to more realistic targets
  • Assess your workout methods to reach your goals.
